It has the effect of preheating mica at high temperatures to evaporate the minute moisture within the mica and to volatilize and burn off impurities.

This is mica that has been pre-fired at high temperatures. By removing moisture from the mica, it prevents the moisture inside the mica from escaping and causing foaming during compounding at high temperatures.
